91, of Clearwater, passed away peacefully in his sleep following a brief illness. Don was born in Batavia, New York, and graduated from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York in 1954 with a BA in History and Psychology. Don served in the Army in Germany from 1955-1957. He completed the Penn State University Executive Management Program in 1976. He completed a long and distinguished career with TCP/Citgo in 2006, serving for 52 years. Don and Polly moved to Clearwater in 2006 to be near family. Don was a man of great faith and served as an Elder and Trustee in the Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was an active volunteer in the Tulsa Community, including Chairman of the Board of Tulsa Young Life, Chairman of Junior Achievement, a Scoutmaster and Webelos Leader and served as President of the Tulsa Opera and Arts Management Consortium. Most recently in Clearwater, Don served on the Regency Oaks RORO Board. Don and Polly enjoyed traveling and spending time together.
Don is survived by Polly, his loving wife of 66 years; his son David Gibson, Sr and wife Suzanne, of Odessa; his three grandchildren Claire Elizabeth and Anna Catherine of Orlando and David Gibson, Jr of Tampa, and his sister Kathy Steinwedell of Bloomfield, Ct. He was predeceased by his son, Donald Allen, III in 2012. A Memorial Service will be held at Regency Oaks South Grand Lobby on Friday May 3, 2024 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Louisiana Tech David Wanamaker Gibson and Family Prize Scholarship, Northwood Presbyterian Church Clearwater, or the Regency Oaks Scholarship Fund.
